Dr. Lenore Matthew — expert in research and program evaluation, grief, and trauma — is conducting a new study, Mediumship Awakenings in Grief.

With this study, she is collecting stories from people whose ability of psychic mediumship (i.e., the ability to sense and communicate with people in the spirit world) opened up after their own loved one passed away.

The goal of the study is to understand this experience and set forth ways to support people living through it — in their grief, their intuitive development, and their soul path forward.

We want to hear your story!

Background of the Study

Lenore Matthew, Ph.D., MSW, is a Dr. of Social Work with a specialization in research, grief, and trauma. She is also a trained evidential psychic medium and a young widow. Her intuitive abilities awoke in 2020 when her late husband unexpectedly passed away.

Since her awakening, she has met dozens of people with similar experiences. Like her, their ability to communicate with people in Spirit opened up when their loved one crossed over.

The Problem

The problem is: When our abilities awaken, especially in grief, we may not understand what is happening with our experience, or know where to go for help. What is more, there's not much information for people whose gifts spontaneously awoke — and even less for those whose gifts awoke amidst the loss of a loved one.

The Purpose

This study addresses this massive gap in both the spiritual/intuitive world and grief/mental health support. The study aims to understand this experience and set forth ways to support people living through it — in their grief, their intuitive development, and their soul path forward.

We Would Like to Hear Your Story!

Dr. Matthew and her team want to hear your story!

The study will proceed as follows:

1) First, you'll schedule a time for an interview with Dr. Matthew to share your story. When you schedule the interview, you will be asked a few background questions about your experience, which will help Dr. Matthew prepare for the talk.

2) Then, you will meet for about an hour for an interview, where you will share your story.

Meetings will take place in 2023, beginning in April.

All quotes and information shared in the final study report will be anonymous, except for your first name and demographics (age, country of origin, etc.). You may also choose a pseudonym instead of your first name, if you prefer.

Next Steps

Thank you so much for your interest! This topic means the world to Dr. Matthew and her team.

We are thrilled to bring this research to the public and set forth ways to support those of us who've had this experience —with the hard evidence to back it up!

We look forward to meeting you soon!
