About the event

Wake up the body, mind, and spirit with peace and high vibration with this gentle seaside restorative yoga and sound healing class -- AND help support the mental health of Hawaii's youth and keiki.

This class is by donation. All proceeds will be donated to the 4th Annual Maui Mini Conference on Suicide Awareness and Prevention, the state of Hawai'i's foremost conference on suicide prevention. The conference is hosted by Mental Health America, Hawai'i, the state's oldest mental health advocacy organization. The theme for the 2023 conference is Suicide Prevention and Building Resilience Among Hawai'i's Most In-Need Youth.

Dr. Lenore is this year's Keynote Speaker. She will present evidence from her practice and her personal lived experience with suicide loss, discussing how mind-body-spirit healing serves as prevention and postvention around suicide. She is one of several speakers from the fields of mental health across Hawai'i who will present.

Last year, nearly 200 health and mental health providers, educators, government representatives, law enforcement and military personnel, clergymen and spiritual leaders, and community members from across Hawai'i attended the conference. Your donation to Dr. Lenore's Morning Yoga & Sound Healing class will be donated to the conference, helping to make the workshops, talks, and trainings to these dedicated community members will receive possible!

Speakers are not paid, meaning your donations go directly to programs.

About Your Teacher:

The class is taught by me, Dr. Lenore Matthew. I'm a Dr. of Social Work with a specialization in evidence-based practice, holistic mind-body-spirit healing, and trauma and grief. I'm also a certified yoga teacher as well as a meditation teacher, a certified reiki healer, trained evidential psychic medium, and intuitive development teacher.

My classes bring together evidence-based mental wellness tools, with somatic healing and spiritual/intuitive practices. I am deeply passionate about holistic healing and mental wellness. I believe that mental health is one piece of who we are. We are minds, and we are also bodies and souls.

Healing, I believe, comes from within, a dance between mind, body, and spirit, led by what our intuition tells us is right for us, and supported by the community around us.

Why Suicide Awareness and Prevention Matters to Me:

In 2020, I lost my late husband Bruno to suicide. Like so many suicide loss and traumatic loss survivors, in the aftermath of his passing, I struggled with my own mental health.

I have found my way forward through mind, body, spirit healing (including yoga, meditation, mediumship, energy healing, and breathwork), and through sharing Bruno's and my story, in effort of help and prevention of suicide among others. Through this healing, I have found not only resolution and peace around my husband's passing, I've also found connection to him in the spirit world -- and to my own self and soul. In many ways, mind-body-spirit healing has helped me live a life that is gentle and full of light, even if that exists alongside an experience of immense trauma and pain.

It is part of my soul's work to shed light on suicide, the complex roots underlying it, and the ways forward, in light and love, which starts with our intuitive connection to self and healing at the body, heart, mind, and soul.

About the Conference on Suicide Awareness and Prevention on the Island of Maui:

Hosted by Mental Health America Hawai'i, this is the state of Hawai'i's foremost conference on suicide prevention, bringing together stakeholders from across the islands, including mental health and health providers, government representatives, members of law enforcement, military representatives, clergypeople and spiritual leaders, representatives from the education system, community members, and of course survivors of suicide loss and suicidality, among others. This is a principal space where these actors come together to share experiences with suicide prevention in their communities, exchange best practices, and grow their networks and efforts.

The theme for the 2023 conference is Suicide Prevention and Building Resilience Among Hawai'i's Most In-Need Youth.

I am absolutely honored to be the Keynote Speaker for this event, and to guide you through this yoga and sound healing practice!
